Primavera has her tongue cut out, Fra Ludovico disappears, and much of the story is dedicated to Lucretia's brooding and Don Vincente's bizarre quest. But once Bianca heaed out into the forest, the book seemed to really pull back on the humorous tone that had proven so enjoyable to that point. Loved the wold Maguire created for our protagonist, Bianca de Nevada, and like all of you I thought the first half of the book was fabulous - funny, whimsical, clever. It was a fascinating period in history that gave rise to some remarkably colorful characters (though how much of the stories attributed to figures like Lucretia and Cesare Borgia are historically accurate is arguable). ![]() I studied history.) I was really looking forward to reading an Italian Renaissance re-telling of Snow White. ![]()
